Day 0: Burlingame, CA

Day 0: 02 June 2007
Burlingame (San Francisco, CA)

Day’s Theme:
Set-Up, Meet People, Get Ready

Weather:
Nice day.  Breezy, sunny, mid 60s.

How I feel:
Good.  Ready.  Let’s ride – enough talk, enough prep!

Notable Events:
Nothing too crazy, but, I think I delivered “the introduction” to the group.  Hard to believe as there are participants from France, England (2), Germany, and Israel.  There guy from France is 74 years old and is my roommate – he rocks.  Well, they had us all introduce ourselves, and when they got to me, I said “Friday, April 27th the new CEO of my company called me in to meet with him, so, in I went with a pad of paper and a pen.  He sat down and said ‘We’re gonna make some changes around here, and they don’t include you.  You’re fired.’  So, I said to the CEO, ‘You know, I don’t even think I need to write that down.’  So, 2 days later I signed up for this trip.”  The group gave me this huge ovation – like I actually did something.  Meanwhile, there is a 6 time cancer survivor from Hudson, MA who is on this ride and raising money, two guys with their sons, and a few others who are doing great things for charity.  So, even though they are great people, they need some showmanship!! HA!!

What’s Happening:

This was the opening meeting.  Michelle and Andy from ABB went through the logistics.

There are about 40 people on this ride – about 23 doing the whole thing.

This is Robert – my roommate.  He is 74 years old and from Brittany, France.  He is retired (for real – not pretend like me), and enjoys golf also.  His worries about him on the bike, so, this freak convinced her that if she let him ride across the USA, he would give up golfing.  He is a good guy.
