New Videos:
Day’s Theme:
Long, hot, ride into headwinds with NO FOOD!
Weather/Terrain:
A bit warmer today, maybe 90 degrees, but a relentless headwind!
How I feel:
I struggled a bit today. We had a lousy breakfast for a day with these many miles, and there is simply no place to buy food in the desert! I and many others felt these effects. One rider had to be carried in (he was vomiting, and another had to be carried off his bike when he finished – scary!
Notable Events:
We were all looking forward to Utah after the Nevada Desert, but, the flat, harshness of western Utah and the salt flats almost made Nevada seem fond. Almost….

What’s Happening:

More beautiful desert mountains in Nevada.
We have seen some long trains in our travels.
This one was moving across the Utah salt flats just like we were.

SAG I was just off I-80. One of the two SAG vehicles was out of commission for a bit today, so, it was a table and Gerard!
This ground was hard as concrete.
Tough place.
Over the last few days, I have seen US historic signs for the Pony Express as well as the US Westward Migration – both of these people movements happened through these harsh lands.

I caught Herb, 75 years old, for a moment after SAG I.
He was disgusted that he was riding as slow as me and dusted me.

This bird couldn’t believe we were riding our bikes across country.

Utah mountains and desert.

Since we hit the Utah line, there has been some water here and there, and/or, the salt it leaves behind.
Riding along I-80, there was a dock into a water body, so, I had a seat and some snacks/drinks.

A picture from the dock.
This is not a lake or a river, just water in the middle of this desert. I don’t know where it comes from – I suspect underground springs, but, what the hell do I know…..

Bike Boy sitting on the dock.
It even smelled like the ocean, and there were gulls!
Yes, I am an angel.

Another view from the dock.

Finally, that freaky, silly, Great Salt Lake.
It is big – can’t even see the other side.
It was a long day, but, Gary and I were just about home at this point.
