Note:
11 of us made a short trip within Montrose, CO to a new National Park – Black Canyon.  This was a quick visit with just two stops, but it was incredibly worth the time and $5!

What’s Happening:

Our first stop in Black Canyon was at a spot called Tomichi Point.  This was our first view.  Incredible, huh?

The previous view zoomed in a bit.

This canyon is the work of the Gunnison River – you can barely see it in the middle of this photo.
The Gunnison River joins the Colorado River in Grand Junction – the town we left from this morning.

A zoom in on the wall of the canyon at Tomichi Point.

We went to another area called Gunnison Point.
It was easier to see, hear, and even “feel” the river here – we could actually feel the moisture from the rapids probably 1000 feet below.

A view of a wall face at Gunnison Point.

Ditto.  Different wall face.

Not sure you can see it, but there is a small bird perched on that tree (top left).
I need a better camera, or National Geographic will not hire me ……

This was cool.
In the middle of this tree was a nest and there were three chicks in it (It think).  This tree/nest was RIGHT along the Visitor Center.

According to someone who seemed to know a bit about birds, this was Mom.

And this was Dad.
