Day’s Theme:
I Don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore Toto!
Weather/Terrain:
Well, better weather AND better terrain. It threatened rain, but actually stayed overcast and relatively cool, like 80s, but still muggy! It was still headwindy too, but, not as bad! Eastern Kansas, however, has shown more green and now we have these rolling hills.
How I feel:
Any better and you would have to spank me.
Notable Events:
Well, the entry into Missouri was NOT grand – the “Show Me” State should take a look at it’s entry points….
Profile: Joan K, SLF, Scientist.

While not technically on the CCC, Joan, my girlfriend, has been busy supporting me and the other CCC Riders with encouragement, cookies, and during her visit to St. Joseph during our rest day, with transportation – driving me, the Rocket, and Erin Go Bike to the store for cameras, supplies, food, and drink.
Joan was thrilled at this particular moment because I wasn’t talking about bicycles or my ass.
It was great to see her, but, the journey continues………….

What’s Happening:

The early morning ride, as usual, resulted in a Road Sag about 15 miles in. Andy (AbB Staffer in shorts) takes rider inventory, Rocket checks his queue sheet (I have no idea why), and Brian pretends to blow Rocket’s head off with a hand gun – I don’t know what prompted this either, perhaps, lack of DQ Blizzards.

The corn fields in eastern Kansas are large, and starting to have land contour.

So, we cross the worst bridge in the world, to the worst roads in the world, to perhaps the worst sign in the world.
The first impressions of the “Show Me” State were “we’ve seen enough!”
I don’t know why I am snarling here – haven’t seen the sun in 3 days and it was effecting me I guess.

Well, the MO roads improved, the hills returned, but the landscape became more interesting – greener, hillier, less smelly – winners all around!
We had just climbed a bit of a hill here and everyone gathered at the top for a “chat”.

SAG II was on Main Street in DeKalb, MO. We were the attraction, as usual (spandex does cause a buzz…..), and yet, there’s more…………

We thought somebody bought fireworks because we heard a loud “pop”.
However, it was just Jeff’s tube exploding while his bike was leaning on a fence! Crazy!! We’ll, at least he wasn’t in motion and the only thing that got hurt were his feelings.
Gerard is looking at this like an Airport Security Dude – foul-play was ruled out. It was shit luck!

Not to be out done by fireworks, Brian hypnotizes small children, and brainwashes them to:
1) Wear their bicycle helmets
2) Play less baseball
3) Call soccer football
4) Eat more DQ Blizzards
5) And play more football (see # 3)

The corn fields in MO have been very cool – bordered by trees, displaying the contour of the land, very green, and very dense.

Once we entered St, Joseph’s, we meandered through this metro park for like 6 miles – it was very nice indeed, although a new road surface would be appreciated!

Clearly we are not in Kansas anymore. From this spot, I saw aCVS, and the first DD I have seen in a month.
If there was only a Del’s………
Or the Watch City Brewing Company….
Or the Trinity Brewing Company….
