Friends – access this link to view some videos I am making with my digital camera.  Not advised while riding, but, at least I have a helmet on…..

New Videos:

Day’s Theme:
Rollercoaster!

Weather/Terrain:
The day was threatening form the start, and the morning brought thundershowers.  The day remained humid, with NO WIND, along steep, rollercoaster roads.  Not an easy day, especially for me….

How I feel:
Still doing well, although, I seemed to slow down to about 1 MPH for about an hour today @ the 70 mile mark.  The SAG van came and stuffed some energy bars and water into me, and then soon enough, the legs were moving again….

Notable Events:
None today.  We saw little except farms and fields all day……..

Rider Profile: Cliff Young, 70, from Denver, CO.

Cliff was born and still lives in Denver, CO with his wife Trish.  He has 2 grown children.
He is a retired high school math teacher, but still teaches math to 5th graders – seducing them with candy, and even getting them into “competitions”.  Cliff’s voice and eyes light up when he speaks of his students and when he hears from them he is beyond thrilled!
This is Cliff’s 5th cross-country bike trip – hello mister…….
Cliff is a great guy and fun to talk to – I just wish I could catch him on his bike!
Cliff says:
“Biking is not a destination, it is a journey”.
And,
“Success is measured in determination, not ability”.

What’s Happening:

Today’s ride featured a “bike costume” contest.
Herb, Tim, and Andrew were up for the challenge, as well as few other riders.
To all of you who get cards from me, three months late, as you can imagine, I didn’t get around to this……..

This day was destined for rain from the start.
By 9:00 AM, the sky was the color of “wet”….

The corn fields in Missouri have been very cool.
Those clouds above them, brought in some thunder and rain.

Myself, the Rocket, and Brian “The Terminator” took shelter form the storm in Chula, MO in an abandoned car wash.  Brian slept on the concrete floor, and a local stopped in to invite us into the office of the co-op next door (very kind of him).
We stayed here for 70 minutes, then continued on.

I don’t know, I love these things.
Hay rolls.

Along Highway 5, we passed this cool lake.

On county road CR C, there were wonderful fields and wildflowers.

County Road C, and all the roads we travelled today, were quiet, but rolling with steep ups and downs – “rollers” the bike kids call ‘em.
Many of these were NOT easy – granny gear for this kid.

Entering “Erin Go Bike” Sullivan County, the ride continued…..

The humidity was oppressive today, and the air didn’t move.
These freak cows were swimming and mooing like crazy – they probably were cooking out and drinking beer……

Closing Note:
Happy 4th of July to All!!
My sister would be thrilled if you read The Declaration of Independence:

Greg, great job on the trip details, pixs. You should consider a career in the computer business….forget that sissy haircutting.
Mike came over this morning and told me that I should check your blog, and after I entered an IS Request, he even keyed in the url.... he's a great friend. He also told me I suck because I didn't tell him his underwear was showing last night before he went to the funeral. I guess I'm not such a great friend.
I am proud to know you, you are a great American (bicyclist), traveling across our beautiful country.
Done encouragement. Keep up the good work (but no more about your nether regions, OK!)
