Day’s Theme:
Long and Steep!!

Weather/Terrain:
Today was another perfect day to ride – low 70s, low humidity, good tailwind, and pretty good roads. Not sure why I had a wind breaker on until 2:30 PM – not a good sign…………,. Today’s route was along quiet county roads again, but there were some very steep, but not too long climbs.

How I’m/we’re feeling:
I think I am definitely tired and fighting the potential congestion that seems ready to overtake me. I was low energy today, and should be sleeping now….

Notable Events:
Finishing! Tough ride for many today!

Rider Profile: Erin “Erin Go Bike” Sullivan, 24, from Kailua, HI.

Erin entered this event with about 100 miles of training, 5900 less than the AbB recommended amount, and completed the first 12 days without any food or water! But she has learned a lot about cycling, is an incredibly strong athlete, and loves endurance cycling so much we now call her “Erin Go Bike”. While she is very much enjoying her trip, she has claimed that she would “Like to level Rocket with a 2 x 4!”
Originally from Ocala, FL, Erin is a (temporarily retired, like me) Marketing professional and lives in HI with her husband Patrick who is a 1st Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps. Erin also enjoys running, sailing, and reading.
Erin says:
“It is what it is.”

What’s Happening:

At 6:15 AM, we started to load our gear onto the AbB trucks under the beauty of this dawn sunrise, and the curiosity of this bird.

Speaking of beauty, this thing was dream come true at about the 13 mile mark and on the grounds on Price Farms Organics.
You know how I mentioned that anything could “take you out of this ride” – I didn’t have long…………..

Speaking of dreams come true, the Rocket has been in search of new friends, and well, clearly he has three.
He has a way with, well, animals…………..

THIS
IS
SPARTA!!

Yeah, now my hamstring hurts too……. L

Along Sparta Road, was this lovely flower garden and aged barn.

A well kept farm and farm house were along the road.

These teenagers were caring for these cows along our route today.

ON SR 603, we had some severe ups and downs. These hills were not long, but were quite steep at times.
Like this time…….

Further on along SR 603, the Mohawk Bar advertised Bike Night every Friday.
I tried to get the kids together to put their spandex and silly shoes back on and ride back out to the Mohawk, but, everyone felt maybe bed was a good idea.
I think this was a missed opportunity – for a beating probably…………

In Hayesville, the Rocket and I stopped at the Olde 30 Inn for coffee and struck up a conversation with George on the left. George has always been from these parts and is glad of it. A retired truck driver, he still rides his two motorcycles around, but not today as he wretched his back yesterday. Hugh in the background didn’t say too much, but enjoyed the conversation around him.

Greg, keep up the good work. I am quite jealous of your freedom (temp retirement?) as I sit here at my desk doing mundane choirs. You do a great job with the pixs and commentary, but you add a little humor, too.
I'm praying you stay healthy, because the blog and photo's give me something to do while boutin tries to fix the computers here.
