Day’s Theme:
Long and Steep!!
Weather/Terrain:
Another great riding day – low 80s, mild, big tail wind! The route was along county roads again, and while most were pleasant and scenic, some were busy and more than a couple Ohio drivers were NOT courteous to us!
How I’m/we’re feeling:
Good, but tired. Robert my roommate went to the doctor tonight – bronchitis.
Notable Events:
Nobody got hurt. It seemed possible today… L
Rider Profile: Robert Voleon, 74, from .

Robert, “Bobby”, was born in La Bouexiere (35), and now lives in La Baule (44) France with his wife Therese. Robert is retired from IBM – he worked as a freelance computer programmer and technician in France.
Robert is a very strong rider, and rides with his club, Randonneurs Baulois (44), in France. It is hard to believe, but, this is his LAST bicycle ride – he “agreed” with his wife that if she let him ride across America, he would give up bicycle riding (she worries about him on the road). This guy still has lots of energy, so, she may regret that decision! Robert is also quite passionate about golf, and hopes to compete in France’s over 75 championships next year.
Bobby has said to me after many longs days:
“To want to cross America is one thing. To actually cross America by bicycle is another thing!” – but he is and will do it!
He very much enjoyed the scenery out west, but was appalled by Kansas and especially the way the cattle were treated.
Robert’s philosophy is:
“Relationships are what is important.”

What’s Happening:

We were all on the road by 7:00 AM today, including our three new riders – Dave and his two daughters Allison and Tracy. These three are on board for a few days to “taste” the experience and maybe do the whole thing in 4 years when Dave is 75!!
Everyone is enjoying their company, but Rocket and I are a little concerned with their willingness to finish after us. We had a little talk with them……………
And Gerard in the background there, two miles into the ride he is fixing and test riding Arlene’s bike.

Our trails today brought us through Canal Fulton, which was already busy setting up for their “Olde Canal Days Festoval”.

I grew up 100 feet form Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence, RI.
There weren’t many farms there……

Our trails the last three days included a few detours.
Ironically, we all confused ourselves here, and, in fact, we weren’t even supposed to go this way.
Don’t worry, we don’t make too many earth critical decisions on this trip – we limit ourselves to straight, right, left, and u-turns!!

Here’s Tim motoring at Mile 60.
He is wondering why I am laying on the ground………..

We travelled along Middletown Road fro a while, and while scenic, was busy, and rough. We had some close calls with drivers along this road and today in general.
I am not sure what goes on in Ohio, but the dogs and drivers are NOT happy people.
The Rocket is from Ohio – this is a clue to what’s up with The Rocket.

We saw some beautiful homes and property on our travels today, and many folk setting up and enjoying Saturday with cook outs, volleyball, etc.

This farm on Leffington Road caught my eye.
The trees in Ohio and plentiful and large – like New England.

Our road ahead on Leffington Road was wonderful – scenic, downhill, and a tail wind. A triple crown! :)

The riding packs joined quite a bit today – which is fun. A few of us rode along Palmyra Road together.
