Day’s Theme:
Get out of Ohio and REST!!

Weather/Terrain:
Yet one more good riding day – cool temperatures, quiet roads, but headwinds for much of the ride as we travelled north. The roads were pretty good and generally quiet – what we like……

How I’m/we’re feeling:
Still well. Looking forward to a rest day – hopefully I rest……..

Notable Events:
Seeing the great lake – we’re not in Kansas anymore!

Rider Profile: Stu Kinney, 67, from Vacaville, CA.

Stu, originally from Beverly Hills, CA, now lives in Vacaville with his wife Nora. He is a retired computer programmer who most recently worked for Hewlett Packard.
Stu is a friendly, kind man, whose company is enjoyed by all the CCC Riders. His only “other” real bike tour was 30 years ago when he rode solo from San Francisco to Los Angeles! He has thought about the cross-country ride for a few years and thought he could do it with a supported tour like America by Bicycle.
Stu also enjoys race walking, and making stained glass pictures.
Stu says:
“If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.”

What’s Happening:

Moving along in the AM, we passed yet more farms, and this little John Deere line-up.
I know my friend Kenny would love to see this on his bicycle routes. Oh that’s right, you would need to ride your bicycle to see it…

After SAG I, we headed down SR 322 into an awful looking sky.
But, it didn’t rain on us at all today – good stuff.

At about 60 miles along Hatches Corner Road, Gary and Ann stopped to ask us what was up as they had seen other riders ahead of us.
The Rocket and I chatted with them about the trip as they are interested in this kind of thing.
Nice peoples.
Yes, I was riding with my jacket on again – I was cold again………….

Throughout Ohio, we saw many red barns, like this one, as well as isolated and old ones too.

Before SAG II, the Rocket and I saw the Taristano Winery and CafĂ©. We decided to stop for coffee, and you can see I am drinking one there. Before you knew it, Wayne and Erin also stopped in, and then…
(The pasta was awesome!) :)

A whole bunch of people in spandex filled this joint up.
This place was awesome – we didn’t really want to leave, and, well, the Rocket even took a bit of Taristano with him (two bottles of wine in his water bottle holders!)

Just a couple miles up the road was SAG II at the Richardson Root Beer Stand. It was a 50s style place and quite busy.

This is their famous root beer float – most CCC Riders had one of these before they continued.

Just a few miles down the road, we entered into the historic state of Pennsylvania.
My Dad is from Olyphant, PA – near Wilkes-Barre.

Riding along Route 5 in PA, we passed by Mason Farms and had our first glimpse of Lake Erie – notice the big ship to the left?
